Legalise Cannabis WA MP Dr Brian Walker and the party’s former federal parliamentary candidate Fiona Patten will join a panel at this month’s Cape to Cape for Cannabis event in Margaret River to discuss the latest in cannabis and politics.

They will cover a range of topics from the new cannabis bill in WA, imminent changes to driving laws in NSW and election results in South Australia.

They will also discuss the grow-your-own cannabis regulations in the Australian Capital Territory, which are now in their fifth year.

Paul Mavor: ‘It’s going to be great event’

Also at the event, an update will be provided on the work of Medical Cannabis Research Australia, which is hosting the gathering, while a number of prescribers will be presenting case studies.

Meanwhile, a team of volunteers has been “hard at work” testing the Cape to Cape walking trail, co-organiser Paul Mavor said.

“This is going to be a really great event with loads of industry networking on offer,” he said.

The event will take place between April 17 and 20.

While accommodation at Margarets Beach Resort has booked out, other nearby options remain available, organisers said.

Across four days, attendees will walk guided sections of the Cape to Cape track – around three to four hours per day – taking in one of Australia’s most scenic and dramatic coastlines.

The program will also include an education day featuring leading Australian clinicians and researchers, including Dr Janet Schloss, Justin Sinclair and Dr Jim Connell.

The session will offer healthcare professionals an opportunity to engage with the latest clinical insights in what remains a rapidly evolving field.

A series of social events will run across the weekend, including an opening night function in Margaret River, alongside gatherings at winery cellar doors and a beachside venue with live music and food.

All proceeds will go towards MCRA’s charitable mission of supporting medicinal cannabis research, educating doctors and patients, and improving access for Australians in need.
