The Legalise Cannabis WA Party has bagged a second seat in the state’s Legislative Council after Dr Brian Walker won the sixth seat in the East Metropolitan Region.
He joins Sophia Moermond who was confirmed last week as the new member for the South West region.
Dr Walker, who works as a GP in the Perth suburb of Serpentine, said: “Cannabis should be, as a natural, healthy, healing herb, available to all that need it or all who want it. It is a heck of a lot safer than any alcohol — the deaths from alcohol and tobacco are immense.
“The simple idea of being able to have a quiet evening, calm down after a hard day, by having some cannabis to settle down, I think is a suitable, helpful, much better thing to do than say, having a six-pack of beer.”
With counting now complete, Labor has 22 seats in the Upper House, the Liberals have seven, the Nationals have three, Legalise Cannabis WA has two, with the Greens and the Daylight Saving Party having one each.
