Switzerland is closing in on the launch of a trial program aimed at providing a scientific basis for its recreational cannabis regime.

Züri Can – Cannabis with Responsibility will “study the impact of regulated supply on the consumption and health of consumers” according to a press release.

Only organic and locally produced products will be permitted with around 2,100 people expected to take part.

The trial was originally due to start in the autumn of 2022, but was delayed pending approval by the Federal Office of Public Health and the Cantonal Ethics Committee.

In April 2022, Basel became the first city in Switzerland to get the go ahead for a recreational cannabis pilot scheme.
