Minnesota lawmakers have held the first hearing of the year on a bill to legalise adult use in the state.

The bill is an updated version of one that passed the Minnesota House in 2021, but was voted down by the then Republican-controlled Senate.

Despite being approved by the House commerce committee this week, it still faces intense scrutiny in both chambers.

But with the state now in Democratic hands, sponsors are hopeful they can get it onto the desk of Governor Tim Walz, who has pledged to sign it.

Voters in Oklahoma will decide whether to legalise adult use on March 7.

Meanwhile, Connecticut has officially begun recreational sales after the state passed legislation allowing adult use in June 2021. Seven dispensaries are opening across the state.
