Any rescheduling of cannabis will be down to experts overseeing such matters and, ultimately, senior officials within the department of health, the industry has been told as the Therapeutic Goods Administration offered no guarantees that high-potency THC will not be declared a prohibited substance.
The option of placing THC into schedule 9 of the Poisons Standard remains on the table – as do all other mechanisms to restrict access – with the process of reviewing the risk profile of the compound to begin later this month when a discussion paper is put before the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling (ACMS).
