The Tasmanian government is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the way industrial hemp is regulated in the state.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania is calling for public submissions on the draft Industrial Hemp Amendment Bill 2023

The bill proposes a number of changes to the Industrial Hemp Act 2015 and the Industrial Hemp Amendment Regulations 2016.

It aims to support industry growth by including horticultural use as an explicit licence purpose, streamline the regulations to remove duplication, address regulatory gaps and improve transparency, efficiency, clarity and consistency with existing legislation.

The draft bill can be viewed in full here. Submissions close on October 25.
