Well-known industry figures Paul and Sharlene Mavor have been announced as candidates for Legalise Cannabis WA in next month’s state election, contesting the seats of Kwinana and Dawesville respectively.

Paul, a registered pharmacist and the founder of Health House International, is currently a director of hemp food and beverage company Omega Assets, producing Herbee hemp-infused beer and spirits, and Chanvre hemp-fed beef.

He recently co-founded WA’s first dedicated plant-based medicine dispensary in Malaga, and opened his second pharmacy, the Green Street Dispensary, in Mount Hawthorn.

He is also a regular on the Cannabiz Awards judging panel

Sharlene is a medical scientist and co-founder and managing director of registered charity Medical Cannabis Research Australia (MCRA), providing scientific education and advice to patients in the medicinal cannabis space.

She is a founding member of the Australian Chapter of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians (Cannabis Clinicians Australia) and has written, conducted and recently completed a chronic pain observational study with WA GP Dr Matty Moore.

Between them, Paul and Sharlene have built Indica Hemp House, which operates as an accommodation business showcasing the sustainability, eco-friendliness and suitability of hempcrete for the WA environment.

Paul Mavor said: “[Labor MP] Roger Cook may feel secure in Kwinana, but I want to bring home to him just how many cannabis users, both medicinal and recreational, call his electorate home, and demand that he stands up for their right to affordable medical care, and an end to the unfounded discrimination many patients face on our roads and at work.”

Sharlene Mavor added: “Dawesville is a marginal seat for Labor, and I’m far from convinced that the sitting member, Lisa Mundy, has done enough – indeed anything – to support patients, either in her own electorate or across the state.

“The government needs to start listening to the science when it comes to cannabis, something they’ve been too cloth-eared, or too arrogant, to do over recent years. That ends now, with this election campaign.

“If Lisa isn’t willing to step up, then I’ll do everything in my power to ensure that she becomes a single-term MP.”
