The Lambert Initiative is aiming to establish an umbrella research body for Australasia to share scientific data and turbo charge medicinal cannabis in the region.

Tentatively called the Australasian Society for Cannabinoid Research, the group is aiming to meet for the first time as part of United in Compassion’s Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium in Brisbane in August.

Lambert is holding a one-day research and academic program on day one of the symposium.

Professor of cannabinoid pharmacology and deputy academic director at the Lambert Initiative Jonathon Arnold said: “It is crucial for medicinal cannabis to advance based on rigorous scientific evidence.

“Cannabis science is increasingly being addressed by researchers in our region, however, there is no independent scientific society to share knowledge and innovation.

“We hope to establish a new society that will meet yearly to share scientific data to help propel medicinal cannabis forward in Australasia.”
