An independent advisor to the healthcare watchdog has urged young doctors and nurse practitioners to “reflect” on their ability to deal with complex medical cases before plunging into the world of medicinal cannabis.
Dr Laurence Kemp, who provides expert clinical opinions to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), said prescribing an unregistered medicine comes with pitfalls and challenges that increase the dangers of falling foul of the regulator.
