Award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalist Helen Kapalos has joined Cannatrek to run the firm’s communications and community outreach.

Her role covers communications strategy and campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and policy and programs, including Cannatrek’s soon-to-be-established foundation.

After an extensive career in broadcast media, Kapalos produced 2016 documentary A Life of its Own, which aimed to provide clarity and understanding about the use of medicinal cannabis.

Cannatrek CEO Tommy Huppert said: “We are thrilled to have Helen join our team. Her background as a journalist and filmmaker, and her work in the medicinal cannabis industry, will make her a valuable addition to our expanding team as we continue our growing engagement with the marketplace.”

Kapalos added: “Medicinal cannabis still carries the legacy of shame and stigma. This is a safe and reliable medicine that holds enormous health benefits. I want to share what I have learned with the Australian public and work with a trusted brand and provider to do that.”

As well as her roles as a journalist, presenter and producer, Kapalos spent four years as Victorian multicultural commissioner, championing social justice reform for marginalised and disadvantaged communities.
