The medicinal cannabis industry will descend on Melbourne for the ACannabis conference and Cannabiz Awards next month as the program for the three-day event starts to take shape.

And the deadline is looming to secure discounted tickets for the conference with earlybird sales closing next Tuesday, July 7.

The gathering takes place at the Crowne Promenade from August 10 to 12, with the wider industry set to be celebrated at the Cannabiz Awards on the evening of August 11 at the Plaza Ballroom.

With the industry going through a period of transformation, the theme for this year’s ACannabis – now in its seventh year – is ‘cultivating trust, navigating change’.

Over three days, delegates will hear from regulators, business leaders, cultivators, pharmacists, researchers and policy experts as the industry steers a path through the choppy waters of intense competition, regulatory oversight and potential reform.

The opening advisory and compliance day on August 10 will see three streams; a business leadership forum – including a discussion on mergers and acquisitions with Little Green Pharma CEO Paul Long and Yongji Health director Jackie Wu – while two other streams will explore issues around manufacturing and cultivation respectively.

Day one of the main conference kicks off with presentation on the latest data from Honalee co-founder Tom Brown, Penington Institute policy officer Rhys Cohen and NostraData general manager Nick Biggs.

A session exploring the lessons medicinal cannabis can learn from other complementary medicine, alcohol and nicotine will then be followed by an executive round table exploring the next five years of medicinal cannabis in Australia. Joining that panel will be Paul Long, Medigrowth CEO Adam Guskich, ECS Botanics MD and CEO Nan Maree Schoerie, and founder and MD of Medical Cannabis Australia Sharon Bentley.

Later in the day, the newly-appointed CEO of the Medicinal Cannabis Council Australia will Gail Morgan reflects on the first six months of the organisation while the following session will see the MCCA board discuss the future of the industry.

The second day will see a discussion on one of most pressing issues in the industry; how to ensure the long-term viability local cultivators in the face of import growth.

Moderated by Puro co-founder Tom Forrest, the panel will feature Golden Days co-founder Sacha La Forgia, Breathe Life Sciences business and development manager James Yodgee, Hale Farm director Cade Turland and Puro New Zealand co-founder Sank MacFarlane.

Day two afternoon sessions will see presentations from the Therapeutic Goods Administration, Office of Drug Control and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, followed by discussions on the obligations of pharmacies.
