The term village green has taken on a new meaning after pranksters in England’s west country added cannabis plants to a council floral display.

West Parley Parish Council in Dorset was alerted to the problem by a local gardener and removed the offending items from the planter box, but not before posting pictures on social media describing it as “looking lovely”.

The planters are looked after by volunteers, one of whom apparently decided they needed sprucing up a bit.

A council spokesperson said: “On July 20th, the parish council was alerted to a report concerning one of the village’s floral displays, which suggested it may have been tampered with and among the flowers was a plant not part of this year’s schedule.”

Maybe next year?

The plant has now been removed and passed to Dorset Police to destroy.

“An inspection has taken place of all the parish’s other planters, and this has not raised any further concerns,” the spokesperson added.
