ECS Botanics has dispatched its maiden commercial shipment of medicinal cannabis biomass from its facility in north-west Victoria.

ECS recently entered into an agreement with Tasmanian Alkaloids, trading as Extractas Bioscience (EB), to process biomass under contract for ECS. Under the arrangement, the company has shipped CBD and THC biomass to EB for processing.

A proportion will be for ECS use with the rest being used by EB to produce other medicinal cannabis products. The extracted material returned to ECS will fulfil medicinal cannabis oil orders for both local and overseas customers.

Managing director Alex Keach said: “The team at our Victoria facility have worked tirelessly to bring the facility and operation to a point where it can deliver commercial product.

“The use of medicinal cannabis across Australia continues to increase rapidly, and we are excited to now be able to deliver commercially into that burgeoning market.

“This maiden shipment is a milestone as the company looks to secure a significant foothold in the domestic medicinal cannabis industry.”

Last week, the company announced it had lodged plans with the Office of Drug Control (ODC) and signed leases with farmers to expand cultivation at its Tasmanian operation by 100 times its current area.
