Tasmanian Botanics has been fined almost $40,000 for alleged breaches of its medicinal cannabis licence.
The Office of Drug Control said two infringement notice have been issued to the cultivator, one for failing to follow its approved standard operating procedure (SOP) for waste disposal, and a second for allegedly failing to maintain its licensed premises in line with approved site plans.
No further details were disclosed.
The ODC said licence holders “must understand and comply with their responsibilities under the Narcotic Drugs Act and all licence conditions”.
“Consequences for non-compliance with relevant laws include not only financial penalties but could also lead to civil or criminal proceedings being brought against those who fail to meet their requirements,” the ODC added.
Tasmanian Botanics chief executive Dan Howard told Cannabiz the fine related to outdated documentation, and said the firm had cooperated “fully with the ODC”.
“We had an instance where we had not updated our floor plan and had altered our waste management SOPs, but hadn’t provided the updated documents to the ODC,” he said.
“All of the updates will be included in our current licence variation for our state-of-the-art drying rooms we are constructing.
“There was just some miscommunication around these updates, which were communicated to the ODC, but the up-to-date documentation wasn’t on file.”
