Medicinal cannabis education provider Medihuanna has launched an online community for healthcare professionals to share best practice and boost expertise in prescribing the medicine.

A dedicated hub on the Medihuanna website will enable GPs, pharmacists and nurses to connect with peers, support each other, ask questions, share experiences and discuss case studies.

Co-founder and managing director Pavel Bulkiewicz said: “Based on our observations, healthcare professionals have many questions in regards to prescribing cannabis medicines.

“Our goal is to provide a space for medical peers to gain the knowledge to confidently treat patients with medicinal cannabis… to become an expert and make the best decisions for their patients.”

Healthcare professionals will also have access to Medihuanna’s online courses, resources, guides, templates, product information and webinars.

The training provider is running a series of webinars and online discussions over the coming months with topics including ADHD and medicinal cannabis, microdosing MDMA and psilocybin, and cannabis-use disorder.

Founded in October 2016, Medihuanna’s first education activity was accredited in 2018 while its online platform launched in 2020.

Almost 2,500 healthcare professionals have completed the trainer’s RACGP-accredited live workshops or enrolled in its online courses, while more than 1,600 doctors are members of the online community.

Live workshops cover practical skills in prescribing medicinal cannabis and a mental health and chronic pain masterclass while online courses are approved for up to 40 CPD points in Australia and New Zealand. Doctors can also use the statement of attendance for their Authorised Prescriber application.

Bulkiewicz added: “Our goal is to expand our educational offerings and provide the medical community training programs on various clinical indications, integrative approaches to treat patients and incorporate medicinal cannabis in a holistic approach.

“We are developing a new curriculum specific to different clinical indications including chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia.

“With such a large number of healthcare professionals being trained by Medihuanna… we would like to see more prescribers join our community in the coming months and will conduct more webinars to engage them.”
