A medicinal cannabis training and education course for pharmacists will launch at the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium in August.
It is understood to be one of the first cannabis-specific training courses for pharmacists in the country.
The program will form part of TEACH-hub, Training and Education about Cannabis in Healthcare, the online portal developed by United in Compassion (UIC), the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians Australian Chapter (SCCAC).
The course will feature an overview of medicinal cannabis in pharmacy – including the endocannabinoid system – case studies, current research, the process of dispensing the medicine and a refresher module on cannabis legislation.
It is hoped it will be available online shortly after the symposium.
The training has been developed by a team of industry figures including Lambert Initiative clinical trials co-ordinator Zeeta Bawa, Sydney University Pharmacy School professor Andrew McLachlan, associate professor and cannabis prescriber Vicki Kotsirilos and Astrid Pharmacy founder Lisa Nguyen.
