Fiona was a member of parliament for eight years in Victoria (2014-2022). She has been an ardent campaigner for medicinal cannabis including serving as deputy chair of the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association. Fiona has been pivotal in supporting badly needed changes to drug laws generally and for medicinal cannabis in particular.

Before entering politics she headed up the Australian adult industry’s business association and championed freedom of speech, sexual rights and reproductive health for more than 20 years.

During her time as an MP, Fiona played a pivotal role in achieving social reforms in Victoria, with examples including the passage of the state's assisted dying legislation, and safe access zones around abortion clinics.

Fiona advocated for patients denied access to medicinal cannabis through Worksafe and TAC, but probably most importantly, she introduced a number of amendment bills to address the prohibition on medicinal cannabis patients from driving. Her work on these discriminatory driving laws laid the groundwork for recent reforms in Victoria.

Fiona continues to advocate on many issues including drug law reform and social justice and sits on a number of not for profit boards. 

Her autobiography is called ‘Sex, Drugs and the Electoral Roll’ and she is the owner of a registered wildlife sanctuary.
