Following a record number of submissions, the shortlist for the Cannabiz Awards 2025 has been announced with almost 100 entries going forward to the final round of judging.
The Company of the Year category will see 2024 winner Tasmanian Botanics defend its title against Australian Natural Therapeutics Group, Humacology, Little Green Pharma, Medcan Group, Medical Cannabis Australia, RAYS Wellness and The Entourage Effect.
Meanwhile, there will be a first-time recipient of the Business Leader of the Year award, with the bosses of Cannim, Little Green Pharma, Medcan, OzMedicann Group and Tasmanian Botanics battling it out for the coveted trophy.
Encouragingly, among the most hotly-contested categories this year are those recognising innovation, collaboration and technology, suggesting the industry is working more closely together to find solutions that better serve patients.
New Zealand is strongly represented, with Puro, Helius Therapeutics and Rua Bioscience all making the shortlist while there are a number of new nominees in a year which saw the largest number of entries since the program launched in 2023.
In the first round, the judges independently scrutinised each entry to determine whether they should go forward to the next stage.
In the second round, each jury of four will meet on a video call to discuss the shortlisted entries before casting their votes for the winners.
The awards ceremony will take place on May 22 at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne, with tickets on sale from next week.
This year the trophies will be presented ‘Oscars’ style, with a catered cocktail party followed by a dedicated awards show hosted by a special guest MC to be announced in the coming weeks.
