Professor Rachel Burton

A University of Adelaide team has been awarded more than A$500k by the Australian Research Council (ARC) to undertake hemp research in partnership with the Australian Hemp and Seed Company.

Professor Rachel Burton from the University’s School of Agriculture, Food and Wine has received $513,272 to explore ‘Pioneering seed solutions for the industrial hemp industry’.

Burton’s team aims to develop the next generation of elite industrial hemp cultivars, grown for their seed with high protein and oil content. The cultivars will be drought resistant with minimal THC content.

The ARC’s Linkage Program promotes national and international partnerships between researchers and business, industry, community organisations and other publicly funded research agencies.
